بسم الله ، والحمد لله ، والصلاة والسلام على المصطفى

In the introduction to his well-known work of tafsir, sheikh Muhammad al-Qurtubi mentioned the following point:

وشرطي في هذا الكتاب: إضافة الأقوال الى قائليها، والأحاديث الى مصنفيها، فإنه يقال: من بركة العلم أن يضاف القول الى قائله . ـ

“A condition of mine in this book is attribution of statements to those who said them and attribution of ahaadeeth to the authors who compiled them into collections. For it is said, ‘A cause of blessing in one’s knowledge is that you attribute a statement to its author.'”

[Jaami’ li-Ahkam al-Qur’an 1/25]

With this in mind, we ask that anyone who would like to share material found on this website would please connect the people to its source.

For websites who would like to share material from the Tulayhah website on their websites or other forms of digital media, we allow them to include small excerpts (no more than two paragraphs) from our translations on their websites, under the following conditions:

1. That you mention the source (Tulayhah.wordpress.com).

2. That you provide a link back to the original article itself.

3. That you do not make any changes to the article. If you feel that there are mistakes in the article, please contact us at tulayhah@gmail.com.

4. That the excerpt not exceed two paragraphs.

We do not allow entire translations or excerpts of our translations larger than two paragraphs to be reproduced on other websites, even if the source is mentioned. And we do not allow our material to be reproduced without attribution, as this violates copyright law and disregards the importance of the isnaad in our religion.

For those who would like to use material from the Tulayhah website for newsletters, pamphlets, or other printed materials, then we allow such use under the following conditions:

1. That you mention the source (Tulayhah.wordpress.com).

2. That you do not make any changes to the article. If you feel that there are mistakes in the article, please contact us at tulayhah@gmail.com.

3. That the printed materials are of a non-for-profit nature.

We do not prevent any readers from printing out material from the Tulayhah website for:

– Personal use

– To share with family or friends

– To post in their local Islamic center

However, we do stipulate that the printed material should mention the source of the translation (Tulayhah.wordpress.com).

In all other cases, we reserve all intellectual property rights to all the articles and content found at the Tulayhah website. Through these guidelines, we hope to maintain a clear line of transmission in the materials that we have translated, as the translator is also a transmitter of knowledge. We also hope to avoid the proliferation of copied and recopied materials that we have seen on some Islamic websites. InshaaAllaah, these guidelines should not deprive anyone of the content that we have made available on the Tulayhah website.

We have adapted these guidelines from the copyright policy of Bakkah.net, and we would also like to direct readers to a useful article which they have provided, which is a translation of sheikh Muhammad Bazmool responding to some questions regarding copyrights of translated material and intellectual property rights in Islam.

And before concluding, we would like to encourage our Muslim brothers and sisters to work towards gaining proficiency in the Arabic language, which will enable you to connect to the scholars and the sources of our religion by Allah’s permission. Through this, Allah will benefit you, and perhaps He will also enable you to benefit others by sharing that which you were not previously able to access.

Your brother in Islam,

Khalil Klopfenstein (translator & administrator)
