Marriage and Divorce in the Qur’an Series

In addition to his famous complete ayah-by-ayah tafsir of the Qur’an, sheikh ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Naasir al-Sa’di also wrote a much shorter book of thematic tafsir entitled Taysir al-Lateef al-Manaan. As the sheikh explained in the introduction to this work, he hoped that if the readers were to comprehend the selected ayaat and their meanings, then it would be easy for them to understand many other ayaat on the same topics.

In one part of this book, al-Sa’di brought a number of ayaat or passages of ayaat on the subjects of marriage and divorce. We have translated these sections and organized them into a series of posts as follows:

Marriage in the Qur’an

Part 1: Conditions for Marriage

Part 2: Rights of Wives

Part 3: Prohibited Relationships

Part 4: The Husband’s Roles and Responsibilities

Part 5: Marital Discord

Part 6: Settlement

Part 7: Justice Between Wives

Divorce in the Qur’an

Divorce Part 1

Divorce Part 2
