Qualities of the Successful Believers – Part 7/7: Tafsir al-Shinqitee

Allah begins surah al-Mu’minoon with 11 ayaat describing the qualities of the successful believers and their ultimate reward. Sheikh Muhammad al-Ameen al-Shinqitee broke his tafsir of these ayaat into seven sections, which we have translated and published as a series. For a guide to the different sections, please click here. Sheikh al-Shinqitee concluded his tafsir of the opening of surah al-Mumi’noon with this seventh and final section as follows:

Allah’s statement:

These are indeed the inheritors * those who shall inherit the al-Firdaws. They shall dwell therein forever [23:10-11]

In this noble ayah, Allah mentioned that the believers who are characterized by the aforementioned qualities are the inheritors. And the object of the subject – which is “the inheritors” – is left unspecified [in the first of these two verses] due to the fact that it is indicated in His statement:

those who shall inherit the al-Firdaws

And al-Firdaws is the highest part of al-Jannah and its most central part. The rivers of al-Jannah spring from it, and the Throne of al-Rahman is above it.

The wording used to convey the attainment of al-Firdaws here is “inheriting”. This is similar to Allah’s statement:

Such is the Paradise which We shall give as an inheritance to those of Our slaves who have been characterized with al-taqwa [19:63]

And His statement:

And it will be cried out to them: “This is the Paradise which you have inherited for what you used to do.” [7:43]

And His statement:

And they will say: “All the praises and thanks be to Allah Who has fulfilled His Promise to us and has made us inherit the land. We can dwell in Paradise wherever we wish; how excellent a reward for the (pious good) workers!” [39:74]

And we have already explained the meaning of “inheritance” and the ayah while indicate its meanings in our tafsir of surah Maryam regarding Allah’s statement:

Such is the Paradise which We shall give as an inheritance to those of Our slaves who have been characterized with al-taqwa [19:63]

so we do not need to repeat that here.

[A brief discussion of the different recitations of this ayah is omitted from the translation here]

And Allah’s statement here:

 They shall dwell therein forever

meaning: eternally, without any interruption, as Allah said:

a gift without an end [11:108]

meaning: without any cessation. And Allah said:

Verily, this is Our Provision which will never finish [38:54]

And He said:

Whatever is with you, will be exhausted, and whatever with Allah remains [16:96]

as we have already sufficiently discussed.
