Allah, High and Exalted is He, says in surah al-Hijr:

“And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty.” [15:99]

Imam al-Sa’di writes in his tafsir:

And worship you Lord until there comes the certainty” – meaning death. Meaning; continue at all times in seeking nearness to Allah through the different types of worship. And the Messenger of Allah (‘alaihis salaatu was salaam) complied with this order from his Lord, for he continued to persist in worship until certainty came to him from his Lord, may Allah bless him abundantly.
